The mean temperature of Tokyo and Kyoto is the same but Kyoto has big extremes. The average is still the same, but extremes are different, which means Kyoto is hotter than Tokyo in summer.
There is a good way to enjoy the hot weather in Kyoto, which is the Kamogawa river’s Noryo-Yuka terrace.
Terraces are usually set up from the begining of the May through September. It is said that shops, tearooms and benches came to be set up around the shallow water of the river to serve spectators in the Edo period (1603-1867 ). This was the origin of the noryo-yuka terraces.
The sound of the stream and the blowing breeze are comfortable there and you can enjoy delicious meals on the terrace floor.
How about having this special experience if you visit Kyoto during summers?
