I dropped by at Miyama village in Kyoto prefecture.
Miyama-cho village opened along the Wakasa Highway.
It has a unique architecture and culture.
One of them is a house with a thatched roof.
Of the 50 houses in the north district, 38 houses have thatched roofs, and the 18 houses were built in the Edo period, including the oldest house built in 1796.
All have Kitayama-style gabled roofs, which is a traditional Japanese house.
This area has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government in 1993.
Beautiful, off-the-beaten track Miyama is an ideal spot to enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking in the mountains, cycling, river rafting, etc.
The easiest way to get to Miyama from Kyoto is by hire car.
If you’re looking for a new way to experience Japan, how about immersing yourself in traditional natural-lifestyle activities in Miyama?
