Washi is a traditional handmade Japanese paper.
UNESCO added Japanese handmade paper to its list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2014, as represented by sekishūbanshi from Shimane Prefecture, honminoshi from Gifu Prefecture, and hosokawashi from Saitama Prefecture.
You can experience making Washi following the demonstration of traditional Washi papermaking on your own at a studio. You can take home the Washi paper you made yourself on the day.
This workshop covers the basic techniques of creating a piece of paper by using the authentic Japanese sugeta (molds/tools) with the material of Kozo (paper material).
Workshops are available from one person. Prior reservation is required.
