Kaitaku no Mura, located on the outskirts of Sapporo, is an open-air museum that recreates the early days of Hokkaido’s development. Around 60 buildings from across the island—dating back to the Meiji and Taisho eras (1868–1926)—have been carefully preserved and displayed here. The museum is divided into four themed areas: a town, a fishing village, a farm village, and a mountain village, each offering a glimpse into the lifestyles of the past.
Just a 10-minute walk away, the Hokkaido Museum provides deeper insights into the island’s history, culture, and natural environment. With exhibits covering topics such as Ainu heritage, regional history, and wildlife, it’s an ideal complement to your visit to Kaitaku no Mura.
