Shitenno-ji temple in Osaka

Shitennoji is known as one of Japan’s oldest temples located in southern part of Osaka. Then Prince Shotoku founded this temple in 593. The buildings have been burnt down several times, they were rebuilt a few times over the centuries to reflect the original sytle of the 6th century.

The temple is located next to the Shinsekai area which is famous for Tsutenkaku tower & the gourmet with reasonable prices.

There’s a Torii gate at the entrance of the temple.

The outer temple grounds are free to enter. If you go into the inner garden, entrance fee($3-6) is required.
Once you enter the inner yard, you can find a five-storied pagoda and the Main Hall in which Prince Shotoku is enshrined as a statue of Kannon.

Access

It takes about half an hour by Osaka loop line from Osaka St to Tennoji St.
You can also take a Tanimachi Line to get to the same station.
